Fall is my favorite season. I love that crisp feeling in the air, warm days and cool nights. I love all the fun fall festivals that take place but I mostly love the dishes that are the essence of fall weather like fresh apple pie. Last Thanksgiving I was searching for a good apple pie recipe. I stumbled across this one at allrecipes.com. It had hundreds of positive reviews and 5 stars so I thought it must be a winner. Luckily, I was right. I have made it a handful of times since then and every time I do people ask for the recipe. You have to give it a try especially if you like caramel sauces. The picture I posted makes it look burned on top but that is just the caramely syrup that has been poured over it. If you like apple pie, you'll love this recipe.
Apple Pie by Grandma Ople (this is not my grandma but I am sure she is a nice lady)
Ingredients:
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
1/2 unsalted butter
3 tbsp flour
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
8 Granny Smith Apples- peeled, cored and sliced (I used Honeycrisp because I love them. They worked well with this recipe.)
* I added 1 tsp or so of cinnamon because I thought it would be good and it was.
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer.
2. Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apple, mound slightly. Cover with a lattice work of crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly that it does not run off.
3. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees. Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft.
Don't forget the ice cream or cool whip!! Enjoy:)

Yummy! I have always wanted to make a delicious apple pie and that looks mighty fine. So in my dream last night I ran into you somewhere...anyway you had Bryce with you and all I can remember is that the kid was huge and I couldn't believe that he was born at 32 weeks with all of his chunkiness. I must have babies on the brain.
When I saw that pie it made me want to reach out and eat it mmmm yum! I don't really like pie either well apple pie!
Seriously... are you trying to make all your readers drool? Looks sooooo delicious. My mother in-law makes a killer apple pie, but I think this one would give her a run for her money! Cannot believe you have time to make a pie???? I know I don't. Once again, Super Mom comes to mind :)
I am so excited to try this recipe. I just got a box on Honeycrisp apples from Washington and after all the peaches I am not so afraid of crusts!!
Man, this makes me want to make an apple pie, and I hate baking. :) Looks delicious. Also, I can't believe how big Kelsey has gotten. I still remember watching her the day before I went into labor (your idea of 'maybe babysitting will put her into labor' totally worked), and how ittybitty she still was. And now there's little Bryce, who doesn't look little. Has it really just been a year?
