Making Bird Feeders

Lately Jackson has really interested in birds. He runs around the yard chasing birds whenever he sees them and is always asking for bread to feed them. I remembered making the good old peanut butter and bird seed feeders as a child and thought that it would be fun to make some of our own. We covered the cups with peanut butter, the kids licked the cups, then we pressed birdseed on the side of the cup. The kids really enjoyed putting the bird seed on and even ate a little. Jackson insisted that he wasn't eating the birdseed, he was just tasting the birdseed. I didn't know the difference. My apologies. Once we were done creating our masterpieces we hung them from a tree. One in the front and one in the back. Now we are waiting for our feathered friends to partake of our creations.

You're so good to do things like this with your kids! I've thought about doing it for years (even coming as close as collecting pine cones to put p-nut butter on one year) but it never gets done. What fun memories! And I'll bet that bird seed tasted yummy! They sound adorable.

How fun. So a while back, I was reading on Jessica Anderson's blog and she used old bread that she toasted to make spread the peanut butter on. She cut them out in shapes , toasted them and then hung them on a tree...the best part- you don't have to clean up because the birds eat it all. I guess you still have the string. Maybe we will have to try the bird feeder activity. You are such a good mom. Happy B-day late, by the way. Your gift is coming:)

What a fun idea. They look spectacular. I know the birdies will be coming soon!
You are such a good mom, I don't think I would have even attempted trying this with Drew :)
